Closer Bass

As requested by a member of reasonstation, here is an approximation of the synth bass heard at the start of "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails.

From an empirical analysis of the patch used for the synth bass at the start of the song "Closer", I am guessing that the synth patch Reznor created is actually pretty simple: a single oscillator generating a square wave with a very narrow pulse width, heavily processed with effects. The filter is open only about half way and there is a fair amount of resonance applied; there is also an envelope on the filter with a very few milliseconds of attack. I cribbed the idea for my Dizzinator combi (as well as some lfo panning on the source wave) to simulate the chorusing/panning effect heard in the original version.

Note that for the v2.5 rack, I have changed the bass patch so that OSC2 is used; a small amount of sine wave is added to give the sound more oomph at the bottom end. If you replace the bass patch in the Combinator with the CloserBass.zyp patch above, the PEQ-2 can be removed from the Combinator device.
