General Protection Fault
a note of appreciation
For the past eight years Jeffrey Darlington has published a web comic called General Protection Fault. It started with the somewhat Dilbert-ish premise of chronicling the people and situations centered in a small tech company. It was when Jeff began to incorporate broad science fiction themes and story arcs into the strip that it moved well beyond the standard office-centric daily into a realm where his fertile creative imagination was allowed to flourish. The result is a true flight of fancy inhabited with heroes and villains in galactic battles yet still grounded in the lives of its engaging office characters.
In the hands of lesser artists, the twin realms of office humor and high-concept sci-fi would mix as well as oil and water; it is a testament to Jeff's genius that in General Protection Fault, the combination is seamless and feeds off one another in ways that never fail to surprise and delight.
I am writing this to encourage you to jump on the GPF bandwagon now. "Real Life" has impinged on Jeff to the point where the strip will be going on hiatus for a month. The tentative return date is October 2nd, 2006. If you haven't read it before, go to the site and read the archived strips there - all eight years' worth are there for the browsing. The site traffic will help let Jeff know his efforts are appreciated as he deals with his personal situation.
